Failed Kavanaugh assassination gives both parties ammunition for blame game

Republicans and Democrats are at war on social media in the wake of Wednesday’s failed assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Those on the Right allege that the attempt is a direct result of Democrats allowing the sharing of the home addresses of justices and encouraging protests.

“The left always unleashes violence,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted in reference to remarks made by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). “Now an armed gunman has been arrested near Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh’s house. He was going to kill Kavanaugh.”

“This is a direct result of Democrats sharing justices home addresses and encouraging people to go there and protest. Shameful and indefensible. Thank god protection was there for Justice Kavanaugh and his family,” another user commented.

“2 years and 3 months after Chuck Schumer threatened Brett Kavanaugh from the steps of the Court, a lunatic shows up to his house with a gun hoping to kill him,” one user tweeted. “Pretty clear line from that through encouraging protestors at Justice’s homes to real danger.”

“The Biden admin encouraged protests outside of justices’ homes. Schumer threatened: ‘You have released the whirlwind & you will pay the price!’ Now a would-be assassin went to the home of a Supreme Court Justice,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) posted.

“Biden and the Dems need to stop their irresponsible and incendiary rhetoric on Roe and condemn the violence coming from their supporters.”

Those on the Left are using the attempt on Kavanaugh to showcase Republicans’ hypocrisy regarding gun control.

“How about we just put Kavanaugh through active shooter drills and tell him to hide behind a door, like every 3rd grader in America?” one author tweeted.

“Unlike the rest of us, Brett Kavanaugh is protected by taxpayer funded Secret Service and not at risk from madmen with guns,” a self-described activist posted.

“Funny how an armed man is only dangerous when they’re going after conservatives like Brett Kavanaugh. Otherwise, it’s something ‘we have to accept,’ just like shootings every day,” one user tweeted.

“Imagine hearing an 11-year-old saying that they smeared themselves with the blood of dead classmates to save their own life during a mass shooting— and then going to the floor of the United States Senate to demand passage of a bill to protect SCOTUS Justice Brett Kavanaugh,” another person commented, alluding to legislation proposed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
