Musk leaning toward voting for DeSantis in 2024 presidential election

Elon Musk said he’s leaning toward voting for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, in the 2024 presidential election, should he run.

The billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX revealed his preferred candidate for the White House in 2024 on Wednesday when asked whom he was “leaning towards” by a Silicon Valley Tesla owners club on Twitter.

“DeSantis,” Musk responded, prefacing the comment by saying it was to be determined whether he would end up voting Republican in the 2024 presidential election.

The world’s richest man also revealed that he voted for Republican Mayra Flores on Tuesday in the special election for Texas’s 34th Congressional District. Musk added that it was “the first time I ever voted Republican,” and he predicted a “massive red wave in 2022.”

Flores won the contest for the congressional seat by defeating Democrat Dan Sanchez. The district had long been a stronghold for Democrats.

In his early morning Twitter postings, Musk, 50, said he supported Democrat Andrew Yang in 2020 but that “DeSantis has a better chance of winning.” He also said that he’s mulling “creating a ‘Super Moderate Super PAC’ that supports candidates with centrist views from all parties.”

In May, Musk announced that he would vote for Republican candidates in the midterm elections, and in June, he said he prefers “more centrist candidates being elected.”

The business tycoon struck a $44 billion deal in April to take over Twitter. The transaction is “on hold,” according to Musk, as he waits for more information on the number of fake accounts on the social media platform. Musk said he intends to make the platform more friendly toward free speech.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the DeSantis’s office for comment.
