Special Agent stabbed multiple times at McDonald’s – takes down attacker with help of Good Samaritan


PHENIX CITY, AL – A special agent with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency who was stabbed multiple times Monday afternoon in Phenix City was able to capture his attacker with the aid of a Good Samaritan.

According to ALEA, Special Agent Don Carter of the agency’s State Bureau of Investigation was stabbed several times while on-duty in the parking lot of a Liberty gas station and McDonald’s restaurant along Hwy. 80 on April 4.

Despite his injuries, the injured officer pursued the assailant  and was able to take him into custody with the help of an unidentified bystander.

ALEA issued a press release highlighting the bravery of the officer and the Good Samaritan who came to his aid:

“SBI Special Agent (SA) Don Carter, who was on duty at the time of the incident, was able to apprehend the suspect. The Good Samaritan, who was also at the scene, assisted SA Carter in the apprehension of the suspect after SA Carter was assaulted.

“Once deputies with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office arrived, SA Carter was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment.”

ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor called SA Carter and the Good Samaritan heroes:

“SA Carter is a true professional and dedicated public servant, even while injured, he was able to courageously apprehend the subject while simultaneously ensuring the safety of the public. His valor, resolve and brave actions will continue to provide us all with an example of true heroism as we pray for a speedy recovery.”

“I would like to personally thank the Good Samaritan who swiftly and bravely reacted to assist SA Carter, as well as the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, fellow ALEA personnel and other first responders who quickly responded to the scene to assist one of our own in a dire time of need.”

Taylor said SA Carter’s injuries were not life-threatening:

“We are extremely relieved to hear that Special Agent Carter’s injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.”

Authorities have not identified the suspect and the events leading up to the stabbing were not immediately released.
